- Posts, photos, comments, poll responses, and other content you choose to share.
- Private messages, plans, RSVPs, recommendations, and shared memory content.
- Friend connections, requests, blocks, and other relationship settings.
- Contact phone numbers, if you grant contact access, used to find people you already know. Contact names remain on your device unless you choose to use one in an invitation.
Information collected automatically
- Basic usage data, such as feature usage and session information.
- Device information, such as device type, operating system version, and app version.
- Push notification and app installation identifiers used to deliver notifications.
- Crash, diagnostic, and security information used to keep the service reliable. Crash reports may include your Real Friends account ID so we can investigate a problem you experienced.
Google Calendar information
If you choose to connect Google Calendar, Real Friends requests access to Google Calendar event data through the https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.events scope. This scope lets Real Friends view and edit calendar events on calendars your Google account can access. We do not request permission to manage your calendar settings.
Calendar event data may include event titles, descriptions, locations, start and end times, time zones, recurrence details, attendee information, event status, calendar identifiers, event identifiers, and related sync metadata. Real Friends uses this data only when you connect Google Calendar to show events you can import, turn a selected event into a Real Friends plan, add Real Friends plans to Google Calendar, keep linked plans and calendar events in sync, and let you disconnect the integration.
Google OAuth tokens are stored server-side only and are used only to provide the calendar features you enable. We do not sell Google Calendar data, use it for advertising, share it with third parties for marketing, or use it to train AI models.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve Real Friends.
- Show your posts to accepted friends and show you their posts.
- Enable friend discovery through username, name, phone number, or optional contact matching.
- Provide optional Google Calendar features when you connect Google Calendar.
- Send important service-related notifications.
- Protect the security and integrity of the service.
3. What We Do Not Do
- We do not sell your data to advertisers, data brokers, or anyone else.
- We do not use your data for behaviorally targeted advertising.
- We do not share your data with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
- We do not use your content to train AI models.
- We do not use Google Calendar data for ads, marketing, or unrelated product analytics.
- We do not use algorithms to manipulate your feed.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored using Firebase and Google Cloud infrastructure in the United States. We use security measures such as server-side request validation, short-lived signed media URLs, and secure server infrastructure between the app and database.
Service providers
We use service providers, including Firebase and Google Cloud, for authentication, hosting, media storage, push notifications, and crash reporting. They process data only to provide these services to Real Friends. We do not provide them data for targeted advertising.
For Google Calendar, we store only the OAuth tokens and event metadata needed to provide the connected calendar feature, such as linked event identifiers, calendar identifiers, sync state, and timestamps. OAuth tokens and sensitive calendar identifiers are protected server-side and are never stored in the mobile app bundle.
5. Google API Limited Use
Real Friends' use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
We use Google Calendar data only to provide and improve the user-facing calendar features you choose to enable. We do not transfer Google Calendar data to third parties except as necessary to provide or improve those features, comply with law, address security issues, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets after appropriate notice. Humans do not read your Google Calendar data except with your consent, for security or abuse investigation, to comply with law, or for internal operations where the data has been aggregated or de-identified.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service. When you delete your account, your profile, posts, photos, and friend connections are deleted or de-identified according to our deletion process.
If you disconnect Google Calendar, we stop using your Google OAuth token for calendar sync and delete or deactivate the token and related connection state. Calendar events already created in your Google Calendar may remain in your calendar unless you delete them there.
You can request account deletion by contacting support@realfriends.io. We process deletion requests within 30 days.
